School crazy. No time to spam LJ. Me sad.
See? :(

Clinical was everything I expected it to be, meaning not much. Stood around in the Ped ER observing intake and triage. Left the hospital depressed, as we ran into a 14-year-old with autism who'd been abandoned by his alcoholic mother after getting picked up by the police and being taken to the hospital as a John Doe. As I type this I'm seeing him as he was when we left for the day, rocking on his hospital bed with a vacant yet bright smile on his face while watching television, a nurse stationed outside his door lest he attempt to leave and I'm tearing up. Talk about fucking depressing. This kid is headed to foster care and I hope to God someone adopts him. Then there was the girl who'd been raped and...see, that one just slammed all of us. We were doing our end of clinical discussion. I talked about my patient who came in because of a nosebleed but was cleared, another woman talked about her patient who ended up having a slight case of pneumonia, ha ha ha jovial, everyone was okay... then the one guy in our group started talking and his patient was a girl on Ped Med-Surg recovering from vaginal surgery because of the assault. No one was expecting a case like that. Just all kinds of fucked up. Like the real world.

Right. Today was pretty fun, if stressful. Had the first meeting of my grad-level course on Portrayals of Nursing in the Media. I liked it and found it thought-provoking. The woman to my left didn't seem to enjoy herself and she sort of reminded me of myself, as she spent a lot of the time hemming and hawing about the class. I found out first-hand that bitching in the middle of a class is hella annoying. Next week I'll be sure to sit away from her.

Decided to participate on the school's newspaper. Said I would write two articles, one a feature on Bill Frist's SMART Grant initiative, another on Oscar Predictions. What I didn't know when I signed up was that they'd be due THURSDAY at MIDNIGHT. D'oh. I don't even know what the damned Oscar nominations are. Woe.

And the less that's said about Pharmacology the better. Jesus Handbasket Christ.

Ain't it, though?

I'm not sure if you watch much animated work. It comes from a Pixar short called "Bounding", one of the more obvious "Jesus, they had to have been under the influence when they came up with this" bits of cinema out there. It's supposed to be profound or some crap, but I could never tolerate the song enough to parse it all out. The thing's up there with "It's a Small World" on the stuck in your head rating.

Oscar predictions are easy: Brokeback Mountain for everything. :)

*grin* I WISH. This has to be 500 words minimum, though and that's only four.
I'm going to attempt to be intelligent with my assessments, even though I haven't seen 90% of the films I'm talking about.

Geez, that's so sad about those patients. Now I'm depressed. I hope you did something afterwards to cheer you up. Your icon kind of cheers me up...

It's so crazy. There are a couple of cute ones you can make from that short, too. :)

I stabilized a bit after coming home and resting. Being on my feet all day did a number on my mood. Thanks for voicing the concern, btw.

When I head back to the hospital next Monday I'll see how everything worked out for those two.

Jeez. That's a pretty horrible clinical day you had there.

And I'm going to update about mine that rocked. Sucks.
