[livejournal.com profile] orpheus78 put this up in his journal and I completely didn't follow the directions. D'oh. Here I go:

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me".
2. I will respond by asking you five questions.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.

1.What made you want to study psychology?
My two close friends at the time suffered from depression. I really wanted to help them and I figured the best way to do it would be to go about learning about what made people tick on a cognitive/behavioral/psychological level. When I started learning I found that I really enjoyed it, so I continued. Now I can't really imagine myself engaging in anything else.

2.What do you think are the best and worst things about living in New York?
The best thing is the ease of transportation. I don't drive and if I continued living here I don't think I'd ever have to. Most everything of importance is a bus or train ride away. Closely following in the heels of that is the sense of anonymity you get from being a face in a crowd of 10 million. I like being able to go about my business unseen.

The worst? that living in NYC spoils me for living anywhere else. I don't think I could make it in a small town or anywhere without a great public transportation system.

3.Is there an album, book, anything from someone who you are a fan of which you dislike with a passion?
There might be, but as I can't make my way through something I'm not enjoying I'm not really sure. The latter Wheel of Time books might fit in the category. I really liked the first 4 or so and after that it was like pulling teeth.

4.What was the first comic book that convinced you that comics are not just for children?
The X-men comics I found in my uncle's room. Up to that point I simply collected Archie comics (you know, the ones you found at the check-out areas). I didn't realize older people read comics until I found my uncle's stash. I also found my first D&D-like fantasy books in my uncle's room. Thank God I snooped around that night. :)

5.What surprises people the most about you?
Probably my sense of humor. I've been told that I either look physically imposing or chronically cheerful, and both those things along with my usual silence factor into people thinking I'm somewhat of an idiot. When I start making intelligent comments or jokes I can see people being thrown for a loop. I don't mind it; I like to surprise people and I like to make people laugh so it's win-win.

Prepare yourself. :)
1. When you were younger and were asked what you wanted to do/to be when you grew up, what was your reply?
2. You happen upon $1,000,000 ___ (insert Canadian currency here...loons? I'm so clueless) and you know you can keep it without reservations - what are the first five things you'd do?
3. What is love? (baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me no more...) Seriously, though - what's your definition of love (romantic, platonic, whatever you wish).
4. Is there one book or album that you can see yourself reading or listening to continuously for a month (if under duress, of course).
5. A clear sunny day or a crisp moonlit night?

Sorry to take so long to answer!

1) When I was really little (pre-school), I always told people that I wanted to a hairdresser with a beauty parlour in my mother's basement. I also wanted to be a mother of 2, but I didn't think I needed a husband. As I got into school, I always wanted to be a writer or a teacher. I still want to be a writer when I grow up. :)
2) First things first, I would quit my job and begin a life of leisure. Second, I would buy myself a condo, probably in my old hometown. Third & fourth would be to buy my mom & brother their own places. I would then figure out how I could help my closest friends (pay off loans, vehicles, whatever).
(Canadian currency is the dollar too-- "loonies" are just a nickname based on our 1.00 dollar coin that has a picture of a loon on the back. We also have $2.00 coins which we collectively refer to as "twonies." Canadians are so gosh darn clever!)
3)Love... hmm. That's a hard one. It's caring deeply for someone, wanting to be around them as much as you can, wanting to put their needs ahead of your own. There's more to it, but that's about all I can articulate.
4)I could read the Harry Potter books continuously. Or either of Anne Marie McDonald's books ("Fall on your knees" or "As the Crow Flies.") As for albums... there are tons. I go through periods where I just want to listen to one album over and over. In the past it's been "Surfacing by Sarah McLachlan, "Battle of the Nudes" by Gord Downie, "Toast" by Arrogant Worms, "Day One" by Sarah Slean.
5)Clear sunny day. I'm big on sunlight.
