Note to self: log out or minimize. KEY. Do not leave slash fic up on screen when AFTK. And fer chrissake do not leave slashiest part of slash fic up on screen.

Thank God all we do is pretend to ignore in this family, otherwise the shame would not end. Or maybe I'm being paranoid and the lingering scent of facial product in my room on my return did not mean my mum had come out of the restroom and glance at my PC to see what I'd been up to.

In part because of [livejournal.com profile] stormbringer986's net skillz I find myself longing to re-read The Coldfire Trilogy.

Note to self: stash books under desk. Will most likely be under there for a good bit of tomorrow (today?)

Me, I sleep now. Sleep. Then in five hours I gets to touch teh babies (fresh from the womb!).

Hahaha, give in to the Coldfire books. You know you want to.
I'm in the process of doing the same thing right now, but those Cheysuli are attention hogs sometimes.

I've never read the Cheysuli books. It seems interesting, but the reviews up on Amazon deviate wildly. I think I'll look into borrowing it from the library when my book queue settles down a bit.

I'm reading Coldfire soon. Sooooooon. I don't know if I'll be able to stomache the ending after reading some of those fics, though. The whole "three endings, each slightly more dissatisfying than the previous" Friedman worked doesn't become a better read over time, unfortunately.

Well, they're pretty different from Coldfire, but I adore the Cheysuli books. It was kind of a fluke that I bought the first one at all, since I was looking for something at the last minute and my mom pulled it off the shelf and basically threw it at me. If you read them, you'll have to let me know what you think.

Haha, I know what you mean. I wasn't too impressed with the endings either. Oh well. The rest was more than good enough to make up for that.

See, this is why I set my computer to go to screensaver and auto-logout after a really short period like 10-15 minutes.

I set it to password-prompt in five, actually. That makes me no less paranoid.

You know, there isn't NEARLY enough Coldfire fic out there. Still I say this. *grin*

Some of these writers are quite good. [livejournal.com profile] fwibble's "The Hand of Lazarus" series was the first fic I came across the other day that I really and truly enjoyed. Her Tarrant wasn't the Hunter, but it was as it should be - he was Alexander, and he acted like a man who was struggling with the new life he'd managed to wrangle. I actually commented on the last section saying it was the best thing I'd run across. It's partially true at this point. :)

Next comes "Bloodbound". That was just nifty writing all-around. I think what's lost in the swooning Damien/Gerald fandom is that Gerald was THE HUNTER, this bastard with a vulkin' (heh) warped sense of purpose. I like the way his evolution is charted ...although the fic has less of an evolution than an abrupt movement towards what occurred in the last book of the series. Still, nicely done.

[livejournal.com profile] alighiera's "Tabula Rasa", though, takes the cake as having the most natural dialogue between Gerald and Damien. The consummation scene was *precisely* as I envisioned it would be: awkward, fumbling, but sincere. The one thing weighing the work down was the babble about the shape-shifting theory - the work is fantasy, not sci-fi, and lines and lines about how Terrant can resume his initial form is a distractor more than anything else IMO. But it's still great stuff.

Dammit, there needs to be more of this stuff out there. *whimper*

I totally agree, there needs to be a lot more Coldfire fics. Maybe if there were so many I'd never finish reading them, I'd be satisfied. (Although I doubt it.)

Yeah, I know what you mean about the G/D fans seeming to forget that little piece of info sometimes. All of the sudden Gerald goes from Bad Ass Hunter to all soft and "I love you" (or something similar) around Damien. Meanwhile readers are wondering "What the heck?"

I actually haven't read all the way through "The Hand of Lazarus" yet, but it sounds good from the part I scanned through.
I don't remember every single one of these, but I really liked "Bloodbound", and the one on ff.net called "Beastie: Torrential Agony of Tarrant the Agonized" makes me laugh every time I read it.

Yes. *grin* that parody-fic is great. Poor Gerald, always getting groped and assaulted: "Just focus the fae on the parts of the doll that got the 'bad touch'" .

And go! go read "The Hand of Lazarus". I think it's bloody awesome.

I'm definitely going to read it later.

Go figure, I have to give up on reading Coldfire fics to do notes for my stupid astronomy class. Definitely not something I enjoy.

I try not to leave slash fics open on my screen, but I do have a rather fantastic piece of slash (non graphic) fanart as my desktop. I leave that deliberately as I love to see the look on my Mum's face when she goes to use my computer.

I'm so cruel...*lol

*grin* So do I. I have a pic from my favorite yaoi as my screen saver. It's nothing graphic, but it's two handsome gents lounging in a field comfortably. I used to have a Potterpuff pic with Snape and Harry holding hands...while lounging in a field (you sense a theme?) and my brother got wigged out. Hee.
