fredericks: (I don't know what that is)

[livejournal.com profile] orpheus78 and I had a short exchange about the car crash commercial (phenomenon?) a while back after he brought it up in his journal. I caught another one while chortling away during the SNL Special Airing of Smiegel's "TV Playhouse" (the hilarity!) and decided to ask the opinion of you LJ people.

You know, I was about to say, I just saw one of those, but...we're very obviously watching the same damn thing.

I hate those commercials. I already hate cars. That just makes me hate them more.

I thought that Jesus sketch just now was great. If Jesus did the Snoopy dance I think I'd start testifying.

They keep showing the damned thing, too. Twice in fifteen minutes? That commercial is hard to forget. Come on, peoples.

I remember the Jesus thing the first time it aired. I thought his dance was hilarious then. And it still is. My mom does that dance sometimes. She's a special lady.

I think VW won't stop until EVERYONE is too afraid to drive anything. I mean really, if anything, seeing a VW get smashed makes me NOT want to drive one. It's like the trucks are drawn o it like a buglight.

An insurance company named Mercury has also been putting out a lot of commercials with car crashes lately, but those commercials pretty much let you know that the crash is coming, unlike those VW commercials.

I don't believe I've seen those. Is Mercury a locally-based company? It would work for a LIFE insurance commercial, I think. An auto insurance commercial? I wouldn't buy into it. The crash is memorable for all the wrong reasons in that instance.

The first one of the VW commercials I saw was here at work when I was ingesting it in the servers. Scared the crap out of me, because it was the one where all four of them were joking around, so I'm expecting something funny. Very disturbing!

That was my reaction. My brother and I were sitting there talking and I saw the commercial out of the corner of my eye. I'm thinking it's some yuppies or whatever going to do something idiotic and then BOOM! We both sort of went "whoa", glanced at each other, then shut up and watched the remaining ten seconds. It got us watching, it didn't make either of us want to buy the product.

I picked other because they always make me jump even though I know it's coming. I do enjoy the one with the guy telling the other guy not to use like all the time.

*grin* There's one like that? Now I have to keep an eye out for it.

Other (please explain below)

I feel disgusted that they would try for such emotional shock value to sell their products.

I loved the SNL last night. I don't think I've laughed that much at SNL in 10 years or more. Crap. There I go dating myself again.

Well, prior to last night I hadn't watched SNL in five years. I feel I haven't missed much. Smiegel always gets at least a chuckle out of me, although I think I've tired a bit of the Ambigiously Gay Duo sketches.

And I'm with you on the shock value crap. Ridiculous.

I have no idea what emotion the makers of that commerical were trying to affect. I don't think it was a serious-type commercial, because after the car crash the guys are all like "OMG LOLZ HOLY--" But still...not really that funny to me. :(

I didn't get the impression they were laughing, but that they were in as much shock as I was the first time I saw it. Which I suppose can get funny after a couple of viewings. Eh.

"Other," 'cause all I could think when I first saw one of those commercials was "wow, that reminds me of the Alias season 4 finale." Then I get all depressed and grumpy because it was my favorite show until it jumped the shark this season. But at least I'm not dwelling on the crash commercial by that point...

The one with Vaughn being all "I'm not Vaughn" and then the viewers going "Oh noez!" and Sydney going "well, who be my baby daddy??" and then the viewers going "Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!"

No, not that one? Hmm.

I thought Alias jumped the shark when Syd started fighting killer mini-helicopters of death. But then again I quit watching way back in S2 when I got bored of the whole Rambaldi thing...which is still around, I see. Hmm.

See, I stopped watching 'cause they completely dropped the Rambaldi storyline--despite having teased us in the S2 finale when Sloane finding the manuscripts in Nepal turned out to be on Rambaldi's "top ten events that will lead to catastrophe" prophecy list.

Killer mini-helecopters of death? I'm afraid I don't know what the hell you're talking about.
