Whoo whoo!
Aug. 9th, 2003 10:17 amOkay, okay... so, lots of good things have been happening. First, I actually get some work done on my project ("some", mind you, being infinitely better than "none", I think that's cause to celebrate). Then I go home and it's not half-bad. Not only did I emerge as the Mario Party champion over my brothers (my record: 3 out of 5 wins ; yes, I am, indeed, the "Party Star", biatch!), but the folks were nice *and* dad finally got around to giving me the Palm Pilot he bought me for my (quasi) graduation. The thing is incredible. I, the technophobe, even have to agree (I never had a beeper and don't have a cellphone). It does everything short of smiting my enemies for me (well, perhaps I just haven't found that button yet)!! Dad also let me borrow his laptop, so I can work on my paper whenever whereever. Okay, okay, but here's the kicker...::deep breath::
So last night I get the urge to take a break and walk down to Blockbuster for the first time in forever. I don't know, I had a sudden urge to see Spiderman for some reason.
Off on a tangent - it's hilarious how Spidey's one big dream is to "move to the city". Dude! You live in WOODHAVEN! Take the effin' subway! Have you seen how much a studio costs in Manhattan anyway? Cracks my shit up every time I hear that exchange between him and MJ.
Anyway, back on topic - So, yeah, I pick up Spiderman and I'm walking up and down the DVD aisle just looking for another movie since I brought enough money with me to pick up two flicks, when what should I come upon? You ready for this? Yeah! Hells yeah! I'd asked for it about three weeks ago. Seeing as my Blockbuster (which is totally *totally* kick-ass) had tons of other cable series DVDS (QAF, Oz, The Sopranos, SatC), but no Trek series, I was sort of miffed. I asked the worker at the time if they were getting DS9 and the guy said he'd tell the manager. I thought he was just wasting my time, you know, but then...::squee!:: Swear to God, I nearly had a spontaneous joy-gasm right there (okay, so I exaggerate, but, surprisingly, by very *very* little). I'm not an uber-geek, I'm not. But DS9 is my Kryptonite. Next Generation was up and running before I was able to get really attached to it. DS9 was the first Trek series I was able to watch from the beginning. It helped that Sisko was HOT AS ALL HELL. Avery Brooks aka that dude from "Hudson Hawk" (was he Hudson Hawk himself? I forget) "Spenser for Hire" (did he play a guy named "Hawk"? where the hell did the Hudson Hawk bit come from...?) aka "he of the overenunciation"...shiver me timbers indeed. And lets not forget Dr. Bashir - El Fahid Siddig Siddig El Fahid - aka "he of the mid-run name change". Grrowl. Slash for days, my friend. Slash. For. Days. If that's your sort of thing. Honestly, it's not mine. And I'm losing track here. Where was I? Oh yes.
DS9 is arguably the best Trek series...except don't ask me to argue it; there's a reason I wasn't on the Debate Team in HS. I just really like it alot. Ignoring the fact that Worf (ha; I called him Ralf for a minute before I caught it; Michael Dorn reminds me so much of that muppet!) is a totally pussy when he's on the station, Ferengis can be annoying as all hell ("Rules of Acquisition" my arse) and the last season is such a waste of film (until the two hour series finale of course...*sob*), the huge story arcs are, for the most part, superbly (is that a word? it is now!) written. And it was the one show that could make me cry without trying too hard. And now I get to relive the magic! Whoo! The only downside is that they had Season 2, not Season 1 (ed. to add - or Seasons 3 or 4...why didn't I get the memo about them coming out??). I asked the guy working the desk about it and he said he'd look into getting Season 1. Whee! Mind you, Season 1 sort of sucks and is full of filler episodes until the end, but we get introduced to Bajor and we get to see the Cardassians get their collective arses handed to them AND we meet up with the Prophets for the first time (which, depending on your Trek nature, will either excite you or annoy the shiite out of you). Am I being too much of a geek? I think I am. Okay, I should go before I scare all the normals away.

Date: 2003-08-10 09:03 am (UTC)DS9 was a very cool show. Avery Brooks was not in the lackluster Bruce Willis movies "Hudson Hawk" to the best of my knowledge, but WAS a character called "Hawk" in the 80's Robert Urich series "Spenser for Hire."
Dare I ask what you mean by "Slash for Days?"
Thank you, Jr. Fact Checker!
Date: 2003-08-10 01:04 pm (UTC)"Slash for days"? Oh, just that I'm sure lots of pathet-er..."dedicated" members of the DS9 fandom most likely spent loads of time writing slash with Bashir and Sisco. And, again, I want to stress that that's not my bag. At all.
