The Six Creepiest Comic Book Characters. There are some times when Cracked hits it out of the park. That there link leads to one of those times. I'm sort of glad I stopped religiously following comics when I did, because I missed the whole Ultimates storyline in the X-'verse and...Piotr and Wanda gettin' it on? Fo' serious??? Wrong wrong wrong on every level possible.

Middle bro has returned, with a startlingly low GPA (okay, it's his freshman year so he gets a temporary bye, but I still expect a lot better from him, engineering major or not) and a scary proficiency at kicking my ass at Smash Bros. (the two are related, perhaps?). On the way back we stopped by Palisades Mall to pick up mom's present (iPod nano) and grabbed something to eat, where he also demonstrated the ability to suck food down like there's a black hole located in his abdomen. I know he plays football and all, but Jesus.

The snags keep popping up with the whole new job thing. First I was told I was negative for mumps titer (how?? nowadays it's like you can't even buy milk without having had a MMR shot), then I was given the okay (according to the nurse my resistance is "borderline, but acceptable"), then I was told I needed to hand in a copy of my chest x-ray because of my positive PPD. I had asked the health outfit I was referred to for my physical about this and they'd said I was fine without the damn x-ray results, which had struck me as funny but I figured what the hell. Now I'm more "what the fuck" than anything else. I *knew* the enthusiasm about leaving would end up biting me in the karmic ass somehow. It should be easy to get the results, but knowing how the DoH operates around here I'm going to end up doing a shitload of run-around for it come Wednesday.

The Great Dresden Reread continues. I'm up to Dead Beat (book seven) at the moment. I still maintain there are a couple of *great* stories waiting to be told between the end of book six and the beginning of book seven. Harry and Thomas make an excellent Odd Couple. Factor in the growth of Mouse, Harry's growing awareness of Lasciel, and Thomas's attempts to fit into human society while being fired from job after job and you have an *amazing* bit of material with which to work. *mumbles to herself some more*

Btw: for anyone else interested in all things Thomas - Butcher has a short story with Thomas as the protagonist in the works. I like Butcher and all, and I really wish he'd give us more on Thomas, but $14 for 80 pages? He's gotta be kidding.

Right - something else I picked up at the mall while perusing the Apple store: The Amazing Spiderman Complete Collection. It's every Spiderman comic from the beginning to mid 2006 in DVD-Rom format. I've mainly been an X-girl (ha), so I figured it's time I brushed up on other Marvel characters.

In conclusion: Road trips! Fun.

If the DC superhero teams were islands in the Pacific, the Justice League would be the Big Island of Hawaii, with its majestic beaches and luxurious resorts, while the Doom Patrol would be one of those islands with lepers.

I lol'ed. That whole thing was hi-larious. Thanks for sharing :)

Good luck with the new job stuff- hopefully they don't throw any more complications your way.

I'm particularly fond of "Yes, both kids have decided to keep it in the family, and when we mean "it" we mean Quicksilver's penis, and when we mean "the family" we mean "his sister's vagina.", but the entire thing is hilarious. :)

Thanks for the bit o' four leaf clover. Hopefully no more snags once I get this damn x-ray report.

Proty is just terrifying. Dan thinks that the Terry Long commentary is the funniest in the universe.

For some reason, I thought your new job was more research/academically oriented. What exactly will you be doing?

I don't know what the creators/writers were smoking/ingesting/injecting during the 70's/80's. Okay, I take that back: I sorta have an idea, but who thought to publish that stuff?

The new job is with a public health organization. I'll go from house to house (or, as I'll be working in Manhattan, apartment to apartment) doing various nursing things as required for certain populations. I was looking for anything that wasn't bedside nursing, and my goal is to work doing research and/or teaching with the government but I have to start somewhere.

Oh yeah, and those DVD Marvel Comic collections have been on my wishlist for a LONG freakin' time. But yeah...$50 per collection? Probably a bit too expensive for the moment...

I think Amazon's prices are a little more reasonable. Next on the wishlist is Avengers.
