On the reading front: completed Turn Coat, the latest Dresden File book. It wasn't my favorite Dresden book: wasn't great, wasn't bad. It felt like filler in between major plot turns, almost to the point where I feel Butcher could have added 200 pages easy to resolve things. Tons of carbs, little protein. I have this mini rant/review rolling around in my head. I'll get to it before week's end, I think.

Started Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The humor comes from how the author closely mirrors the Regency style while inserting the undead, but I'm not drawn in after ten pages. I'm one of *those* readers, I know. I'll pick it up again during my commutes this week.

*
On the Jesus, I'm blushing SO HARD RIGHT NOW front: Mom picked up the my copy of Future Lovers Volume 1 and started idly flipping through it. I wanted the ground to swallow me whole. I babbled something about it not being for adults (in direct opposition to the cutesy "Explicit Content" sticker on the cover) before reaching over and snatching it out of her hands. Then she avoided me for a solid two hours.

Hmm. I should leave that thing hanging around more often.

*
On the Swine Flu front: Seriously, if you're ill STAY HOME. If you're exhibiting symptoms (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, fever), call your doctor's office BEFORE HEADING OUT THERE. Chances are they'll want you to stay home, take some Tylenol, hydrate, and update them if your symptoms worsen. The last thing they'll want you to do is come in and pass the love onto everyone in the waiting room and the office staff. And, oh yeah, WASH YOUR HANDS.

And I'm totally going to lay off the caps now.

*
On the this is both good and bad front: Limbo no more: HBO is scheduled to begin shooting the pilot episode for George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series. The Good? It's Game of Thrones! Jon Snow! The Lannisters! Epic lolz and dedz! The Bad? Martin is never going to be able to finish the series now. If he thought the pressure on him to wrap up was bad *before*... hoboy.

*
On the what's weaseled its way into my head front: The Onion's AV Club did a music primer article on Prince a couple of days back, and in the comments section someone linked to the clip of the VH1 airing of George Harrison's induction to the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, where Prince kicked some major ass on the guitar. And pulled out some truly hilarious theatrics, as is his wont. The song performed was "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", and the video is below.

The comments also led me to Kevin Smith's funny retelling of his week with Prince (the first part of four clips is embedded below):

And then I just had to pull out "Game...Blouses":

I wish I had more weekend in which to revel. Oh well.

Where's the hilarious parts?

That was some pretty good guitar playing, there... =)

The funny - The "fainting" that required the bodyguard to lift him back onto the stage. Also the end of the song where he throws his guitar up into the air and into the arms of a waiting stagehand before disappearing backstage. Solid gold.

I never saw Prince cut loose before. Definitely eye opening.

Yeah, he's a damn good guitarist, although he only shows bits and pieces of that in the average song. Some of the stuff off of Purple Rain shows more than most, and that's when I had to revise my opinion of him.

At first I said something like, "Oh, sure, he's pretending to play a guitar." After hearing what he was playing I realized that he really was more than capable.

The bending over backwards ~ and the tossing of the guitar ~ are both classic moves. For the back bend, check out Nigel Tufnel in Spinal Tap; they poke fun at that (and nearly everything else in rock music =).

True enough, although you can't deny it's somewhat amusing to have Prince running around stage while everyone else remains rather austere.
And I have to pull out Spinal Tap again; it's been too long. *grin*

I have double disc edition of Spinal Tap, and the bonus disc seemed longer than the movie ~ tons of additional scenes. We watched that recently, but it was so meaty, we didn't get around to watching the film ! =)
