fredericks: (Coffee?)

* Took my laptop over to the Apple Store today, waited in line, met with the tech. He spent maybe a minute fiddling with the faulty "a" key, went to talk with a coworker about God knows what for ten minutes, returned and told me he'd have to send it out for repair (which I could have DAMN WELL TOLD HIM WHEN I SAT MY ASS DOWN AT THE "GENIUS BAR") but he couldn't guarantee it'd be returned by next Tuesday because there was "a backlog of computers waiting to be sent out". So I told him to sit on it and turn in my head. In the real world I told him thank you and said I'd bring the laptop in upon my return from ATL. Utterly ridiculous.

*On Friday the times for the SGA and Torchwood panels coincide. DGL's bound to be less inhibited on the first day, but Mama needs her fix of Flan. I know where I'll be next Friday at 11:30 in the morning. *grin*

*We've been inundated by large brown hairy web-building spiders in and around the house (more around than in, thankyoubabyjebus). There's one in particular that insists on stringing these GINORMOUS webs throughout the backyard - the largest of which spanned from the big oak in our neighbor's yard to our water reserve tank. The thing must have been 20 feet wide. My brother's been calling that spider Charlotte, while I alternate between dubbing it Peter Parker and Shelob, depending on how often I end up walking through its damn handiwork. You'd think the damn thing is an overachiever, because whenever I enter our backyard I'm still set upon by what feels like millions of mosquitoes. If Petey doesn't start getting the job done I'm going to have to do him in before he can reproduce and officially make our backyard look like something out of Arachnophobia.

FYI - I hate spiders.

*So I'm reading Shadow's Return, a sequel to one of the most awesomely bad books I've ever read and...it's not hideous. I mean, yes, it has racist overtones, and, yes, slavery is horribly romanticized, but the writing otherwise is fairly solid. That doesn't mean I'm not going to put it on blast when I'm done with it (I'm going to have to get [livejournal.com profile] captainschlumpy to join me for a MST3K-style post of amazing snark, I can just tell). I just can't seem to look away.

FYI - Badfic is so good.

*Australia 2010? I'm throwing random stuff out there at this point.

Yuck! I hate spiders too, and it always grosses me out when I walk into a web. That happened to me the other day and I started spazzing to try and get it off of me, and my friend just kept laughing.

You're going to DragonCon right? Assuming a job doesn't magically materialize in the next week or so, I'm planning on being there with my sister and a bunch of her friends too.

I've started sending my family members in front of me or waving newspaper or whatever bag I'm carrying to get rid of any possible webs. I hate running into them so much.

And, awesome! Maybe I'll catch you at Con somewhere. :)

Hahahaha I wave stuff around in front of me to get rid of spider webs too, if I know there have been some in the area recently.

Once it gets a little closer to the con, I'll have a better idea of whether I'm going for sure or not. It all depends on the state of the job hunt between now and then... I'll let you know what I'm doing. :)

You could just go to the Stargate panel they're having on Sunday. It's supposed to feature Joe, Ben, Claudia, Rachel and Jason.

I have yet to peruse the full DCon line up. I'm going to make that a priority for the weekend and see how things shape up. Thank you for the info!

oh man, I remember you telling me about that guy. I couldn't believe that 1. he was able to get a medical card w/out being a citizen. I used to work at the Public Aid dept. (now health and human services?) and we practically made people produce a birth certificate and 5 witnesses to prove you were eligible for aid. 2. that any doctor would recommend gastric bypass to someone who had a wound that wouldn't heal and no way to make healthy food. Like you said, at some point a person's health is their own responsibility, if he didn't want to take care of it... Still, sucks for you and his family. See you on Sunday!

*grin* Dude, you're awesome.
I knew you'd remember. I'm going to spend a good part of Sunday venting, I know. Be prepared.
