Today's been surprisingly tolerable, all things considered. I recorded a weight gain this week at WW for the first time since I started the program, but I think I've been pretty pragmatic and realistic about it (cheese platters during the holiday weekend! but I have lost a crapload of weight overall) and *did* go to the meeting this evening (yay, Team Me!) I also managed to locate the music library I thought I'd accidently deleted while putting around with my HD, and now I can jam to all the songs I'd been missing. Work was pretty quiet on the whole, even with half the team out (three-quarters of the team is off tomorrow; I'm trying to block out the potential shitstorm that'll be Thursday as I type this up). Also, I've determined that use of a heating blanket works *wonders* when it comes to relieving menstrual cramps (smoothest start of a period I can recall, I tell you what).

My New Years Goals are pretty straightforward:
1. Learn to drive (the motivation to actually carry a license in a city with an extensive public transportation system? v. v. low)
2. Apply to Grad Schools
3. Get down to a BMI below 25.
4. Write daily.
5. Plan an "event" for once a week (as trying to socialize more never seems to work).

If I've been spazzy lately it's because work is bonkers. And I'm scheduled to work New Years Day and this weekend. BUT once I get past this weekend vacation starts next Thursday. Light at the end of the tunnel.

Best wishes for everyone in the upcoming year.

I think I like New Years 'goals' better than 'resolutions' here. Are you doing anything for vacation? Or just resting?

"Resolution" takes on the same negative connotation as "diet" for me at this point: I've never managed to follow through with either, so why bother with the label? Procrastinator for live, yo.

This vacation I'm going first to Connecticut for a union-related training session, then over to balmy Toronto. I've never had a vacation where I've had to make it my business to purchase cold-weather gear before, but there's a first time for everything. :)

Ooooo, Toronto! That sounds like a nice way to spend vacation, though.

I'm excited because the company will be fun and I'm going to a place I've never been. And, VACATION! It's win-win. :)

Congrats on the WW! That's awesome, particularly this time of year. I don't know if your family is the "we feed you because we looooove you! EAT!" kind or not, but I do know there's a ton of temptations out there during the holidays.

I hope work is calm until vacation starts! Happy New Year to you too! :)

My fam doesn't guilt me into eating, but there's just always tasty food *everywhere*. I'm surprised I didn't gain more weight than I did. The entire weekend after Christmas was a black hole of carbs and pork/beef.

Be well, my friend. Best to you and yours. :)

Another twenty-something non-driver! This is one of my goals, as well.

See, now I don't feel so bad that I don't feel the urge to get my license. It's definitely helpful, but unlike my brothers I wasn't influenced by auto-industry funded movies and TV shows and inflicted with the "imperative" to get my wheels.

It helps that we live in places with good public transit systems. We haven't needed to drive. On the other hand, if an emergency cropped up and I needed to get somewhere outside Boston in a hurry, I'd be SOL. It'd be nice if I had the ability and the right to drive, even if I didn't need it most of the time.

Want to agree to bother each other about it? Might help us both get motivated.

exactly - I have to go up to Connecticut next weekend and I'm forced to either bum a ride off a friend or beg one of my bros to take me. Not cool. Not like having a license necessarily means that I'll be able to get or afford a car (with insurance and car note payments and all), but my dad keeps talking about getting my license and "sitting on it" so my insurance payments go down. Makes sense.

And we should nag each other about it. At least until one or both of us get it done. :)

I just got my license a couple months ago. There were several other 20-somethings in my driving class. The 16-year-olds were too busy texting to pay attention to the classes, so I know who I'd rather be sharing the roads with. :/

Heh. Although even some of the older drivers spend way too much time on the phone when they should be paying attention to the road.

I'm glad I'm not the only 20+ person who's taken her sweet time to get her license around.
