K, so I'm really really liking Shadow Magic, the sequel to the (imo) so-so Havemercy by Jones and Bennett. Can't really pinpoint why, seeing as the plot does more meandering than the slow pace of Havemercy, and I'm not quite sure what the authors are driving towards, but the characters are endlessly entertaining. It's on my Droid, and I think this is the first time in a long time I can see myself staying up to read a book. Of course, now I'm looking for similar books over at Amazon to download. I nearly fell off my bed laughing when one of the first books recommended was reviewed as "good, but nowhere near the level of a true fantasy book like Luck in the Shadows," Flewelling's first Nightrunner book. Guess I'll be avoiding that gem.

FYI - Trader Joe's pork buns are surprisingly not bad. And when you follow the instructions for warming them up in the microwave it's seriously like you've cooked them in a steamer. Too. Good.

I liked Havemercy but I agree that the characters in shadow magic are very entertaining! I plowed through it in an evening on my kindle. How could you possibly read a book that wasn't as good as the nightrunner series, those books are pulitzer material *snort*

I liked Shadow Magic. Kept waiting for the slash to kick in, but I'll take interesting platonic relationships if I can get a protagonist in a dress for more than half the book.

I have to know what a "pork bun" is. Leaving it up to my imagination is just bad for everyone. Or, you know, me, anyway.
