Five Years and Counting
Oct. 12th, 2003 01:32 amWent to the High School reunion today, and, against my wishes, actually had an okay time. The venue was pretty in a wannabe Eurotrash way, and the bar was open (for the $40 dollars I paid it better be), but since "open" meant a choice between Corona and Coors Lite, it was a bit of a let-down (Coors Lite being the lesser of two piss-tasting evils and me being in the mood for free booze, I went with that one). There were tons of familiar faces, and tons of apparently successful people. Hey, we graduated from Science. I should have expected no less; it's a self-selecting bunch. Besides, those that weren't in med school/law school/working for J.P. Morgan (like every other person I chatted with seemed to be) were probably at home hiding in shame...instead of sipping free Coors Lite while exchanging less-than-heartfelt pleasantries like I was. Irina was there, and for that I was grateful. I underestimated how much I'd missed her. Apparently she's getting married in five weeks. Good for her, sez I! I intend to keep in contact with her this time around. Other than that...you really don't know what to say at these things. Thank goodness I had Alexa with me. I mean, you sort of ask people how they are and what they're doing and then lapse into silence. Under the best of circumstances I'm a horrible socializer, so that part was painful. But otherwise, yeah, not bad.
Shortest entry from me ever, huh?
Don't get used to it.
