So I actually tried to put some effort into my hairdo today, after crawling into work post-three hours sleep yesterday looking like something off the side of the road. This involved me setting my alarm for 5:10 instead of 5:40, drowsing on myself until about 5:25, running into the bathroom for my ablutions, then attacking my mop with the curling iron until 6: 20. It was not pretty. It was also almost for naught, because all the curls I managed to add ended up deserting me once I ran the comb through my hair. I was going for an out-do instead of my usual ponytail (in an attempt to slow my hair loss; my temples, they are awful), but I ended up sticking with a loose ponytail anyway, once I took the curling iron to my hair again.

I think things didn't end up that bad. Got the usual compliments for my hair being in anything but a pulled back to the nape ponytail. One of those was "oh, you look pretty today." Because I'm crotchety I decided to ask if I didn't look pretty on other days. Which, I don't. I generally look like warmed-up ass. But the person in question didn't know me well enough to call my bluff. That was my one bit of amusement during an otherwise overly taxing workday.

I've been fighting the blahs recently, and in an attempt to avoid the usually overloading on carbs I've found myself buying lots of crap. I made a stop by Jim Hanley's Universe Saturday (thank GOD my comic collecting days are basically over, because I'd most likely send myself into bankruptcy), where I picked up 3 & 4 of Runaways, more recent compilations of Powers, and a hardback copy of The New Avengers. Then today I went to Best Buy, where I picked up Thor, Dylan Dog, and season 2 of Community. I'm on vacation in a week and a half, so I'm hoping to actually make my way through all of those then.

Randomly - the next movie I'm looking forward to this fall? 50/50. Partially because of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, mostly because it's something that I find most gripping and heartrending when I found in my patient population.

EXTRA, EXTRA
1. [livejournal.com profile] cbackson won all sorts of internet brownie points from me when she posted an EPIC POST OF BAD PROFIC SNARK on an actual trufax book titled Stranded With a Cajun Werewolf. Really. No, REALLY. Follow that link and just take a look at that cover, y'all. And because she is amazing and full of warm fuzzies when it comes to spreading brainpain, she's been kind enough to announce her next bad romance profic selection in advance so other folks can join in the snark as well. I've downloaded my copy of Awaken the Highland Warrior (fo. SERIOUS) already, and I highly suggest y'all on my FL join in the fun as well. I will post a link to [livejournal.com profile] cbackson's LJ post when she puts her review up.

2. [livejournal.com profile] alicetheowl is in the middle of a moving sale and is selling manga and anime via Ebay here.. Lots of complete series in English are up for sale, including Love Hina, Planet Ladder, and Cowboy Bebop.

Thanks! We'll be updating it a few at a time for the next couple of weeks, so that we don't have to schlep 50 bajillion things to the post office all at once. Josh has to ship things during his lunch break, and I have vowed not to break the husband.

The curling iron DEFEATS me. My attempts either result in some weird beauty pageant sausage curl action or straight up nothing. Falls right out.

I did it for two days and I gave it a rest this morning. I'm ready for my beautician to do something with my hair already. Curling irons are great for folks with motivation, time, and forearm strength.

Basically I'm all "screw it, sleep is so much better." My hair, it is a sad thing.

Oh, wow. That book sounds like a masterpiece of awful. I would join you in reading the next one, except I'm afraid if I read stuff like that, I'll wind up writing it (what doujinshi does to me is bad enough, probably)... but I look forward to your link to the snark, because MST3King makes me happy in my soul. XD Thank you for the laugh!

Ha! It sounds hilarious, doesn't it? I love her review. I've yet to start her newest selection, but she says its actually *worse* than Cajun werewolf, so my expectations are high. :)
