My day, or "never go full retard"
Aug. 13th, 2008 11:48 pm1. Got recognized in front of the entire team (300+ nurses) for garnering positive feedback from a patient. Won a free t-shirt. Supposedly. It's on order. Who knows.
2. Visited three patients: two hours. Made numerous phone calls to MDs, nurses, and other various folk: seven hours. Team meeting: one and a half hours.
fredericks's work day: seven point five hours. Hours
fredericks worked today? ten point five hours. Overtime? not an option because I'm new.
3. Also not an option because I'm new? protesting being moved south (from the Upper West Side to Midtown) because there aren't enough patients for the other nurses in my area to share*. So, as of next week I lose all my patients and pick up for another nurse who's heading on vacation for two weeks. What the fuck I do after that no one knows. Will I have a job? Yes, because I'm fuckin' Union. Will I be happy being stuck working Midtown? Absolutely not. But I'm new, so goddamnit.
4. Saw "Tropic Thunder". Laughed until I cried. It sort of mediated the shit storm that was my afternoon. Never go full retard, y'all.
*My manager comes to me at 4:25PM and starts with "oh, you know we don't have enough patients for [the other two nurses in the area], so I'm going to have to look into moving you south. What do you have to say about that?" At which point I sort of stare at her for a moment and then go "well, I'm new; what am I supposed to say about that?" And she goes, in her usual blunt way "there's nothing you can say about it, now is there?" Which is when I seriously wanted to engage my "Choke-A-Bitch" button. Why even fucking ASK me, then? Jesus.
