fredericks: (Being Veep is hard work *snore*)
I'm watching Kitchen Nightmares (Gordon Ramsey's U.S. version), and HOMG! it's like a Jerry Springer episode cranked to eleven. This episode is on the restaurant called Fiesta Sunrise, plagued with bad sanitary conditions and tons of familial drama in regards to the financial founding and future of the restaurant. The show's a half-hour through and there's been more time spent on the owner's personal issues than on the shoddy food content. Ack! And there are roaches all over the kitchen!!!! Don't they have health inspectors in West Nyack??? Sweet Bejesus. Gordon certainly is brutal but this is just off the chain. Such a lovely lovely train wreck.

I keep meaning to update but I lose my drive. There isn't much to share, at any rate. I worked this past weekend and got stuck with a shitty assignment - way more patients than I could handle. I asked for overtime instead of sucking it up and asking for per-diem for a certain number of cases...and one of my bosses came over and said she'd ask the weekend managers to give me a "lighter assignment." TPTB don't have a problem if you suck it up and do per-diem work if you're staff, but once you start asking for OT (I got 8 hours of OT this pay period) they want to make things "easy." Fine, less work for me. During NYC's blizzard-like episode on Wednesday I got sent to see patients and was allowed to go home when done, so I was at my house shoveling snow by 2pm. Another cool moment from the workplace? I ended up chatting over the phone for a good ten minutes with a celebrity I had a major crush on a couple years ago without realizing with whom I was speaking. I mentally "squee"'d for the rest of the day

No work today because of weekend shifts, and I spent the day doing a lot of nothing. I've been really pooped lately. Can't even really muster the energy to feign socializing. It's my normal: I'm not discontent but I'm just not happy. No complaints, and I always remember I'm lucky to have what I have and do what I do. But, you know *shrug*.

Valentine's Day is shaping up to be painful as per usual. I think I might try to run around the City that day instead of deal with looking at my brother and his somewhat annoying girlfriend canoodling in the house. Bro is nice, but he doesn't seem to understand that, yes, having your single sister hanging around while you and your girlfriend prepare a steak and lobster dinner is gonna be v. v. awkward. Might try to go and see Daybreakers if I can find it playing anywhere. I was interested in seeing Percy Jackson until I caught the reviews, found out it was being directed by Chris Columbus, and saw that Percy looks old enough to be a freshman in college.

Funny bit: at the moment the 'rents are both in Trinidad for Carnival and oldest bro and I got calls from a number of our concerned relatives on the day of the blizzard/snow condition on Tuesday who were inquiring how we were holding up. At which point I had to reply "you do realize our combined age is 55, right?" Yes, I'm way too old.

Happy Friday, all.
