Hey hey, let's rock
Feb. 3rd, 2006 05:44 pmI finished my two articles yesterday with a whole 14 minutes to spare. I got approval on the Oscar one, but I'm yet to hear back on the "investigative piece" that I worked damn hard on (for me, anyway). I hope that gets through. I'd hate to have spent all that time running back and forth to interview professors and chairs for it to come to naught.
As a reward I went to see "Something New" this morning. Matinee showing because I'm living on a small credit line until my check comes in. It was okay. Made relevant points on race in a black/white relationship, surprising me. I do wish the Simon Baker character wasn't shown as so forgiving however. I guess that's how the romances go, no matter who's in it. I do think I could have waited until it came out on video; just wanted to get out of the house for a bit.
The A-Z meme to pass the time.
A - Accent: ? I never know what to say to this. A generic American-type one.
B - Breakfast Item: This morning? Starbucks Iced Coffee and a Blueberry Scone. Usually I have a packet of Instant Oatmeal, a banana, and a cup of tea or coffee.
C - Chore you hate: Once you're a female over 16 they're no longer "chores" but "housework". That said, I hate having to clean my room because I hate to throw things away and I find it impossible to tidy everything. It's rewarding when I'm done but the process takes forever.
D - Dad's Name: Is a variation on the name of a famous biologist.
E - Essential everyday item: Hot water. Excellent for baths, essential for teas, generally great all-around.
F - Flavor ice cream: Haagen Daaz's Strawberry Cheesecake
G - Gold or Silver?: Silver. Money can be spent on more important things.
H - Happy Place: My bed on a quiet moonlit night.
I - Insomnia: I've only had to deal with one bout of it, during my horrible last semester at school. I was eating horribly and just couldn't get more than 3 hours of sleep a night. I sympathize with people who have to live like that.
J - Job-Love or Want to Leave: I think I might love nursing if I overcome my worries about being incompetent. The one job I worked that I came close to loving was slaving over a grill at one of my school's late-night eateries.
K - Kids: I'd like one or two.
L - Living arrangements: With my folks. Still. Don't remind me how old I am, please.
M - Mom's birthplace: San Fernando, Trinidad, WI
N - Number of loves you've had: (*grin*) Perhaps zero.
O - Overnight hospital stays: Two four- or five-day stints. Motorcycle accident. Not life-threatening, but requiring the insertion of hardware.
P - Phobia: Spiders, heights, the tags on mattresses you're not supposed to remove
Q - Question: Is it me?
R - Religious Affiliation: I don't think an affiliation is necessary, but I currently enjoy going to an Episcopalian church
S - Siblings: Three brothers, one half-sister
T - Time you wake up: It depends. If left to my own devices, some time around 9AM. On clinical days around 4AM. On school days 6AM.
U - Unnatural hair colors you've had: None. I can't think of any that'd work on me anyway.
V - Vegetable you refuse to eat: I hate akee. HATE. My folks will make it every blue moon and I just run. The fact that parts of it can be poison doesn't help. There's also this green vegetable thing (also West Indian) they'll make sometimes, it's bitter as all hell. I mean, straight up nasty. Can't recall the name.
W - Worst habit: I'm going to be generic and say procrastination. All of my habits have their upsides, though.
X - X-rays you've had: Teeth, legs (both), arms (both)
Y - Yummy: Ginger tea with a touch of honey, fresh hot-from-the-oven sweet bread mom's made, black beans and rice, shrimp & pumpkin and bake, a warm hug.
Z - Zodiac sign: Gemini
