I have much love for the fic'ers out there, but this simultaneously bugs and amuses: slash writers that go on record denouncing certain couplings as non-canon when they themselves aren't going by the books. Por ejemplo - if you feel you're making the world a better place by increasing the Roy/Havoc fic out there, how can you say Roy/Al is non-canon? It's ALL non-canon! Who cares! omgwftbbqxxl! ::collapses into a puddle of giggles::

If I'm needed I can be found in the corner with the other five-year-olds.

I totally agree with you. I read Harry Potter fanfic and there are so many people who say "OMG! Sirius/Remus is so canon!" No, it isn't. No slash relationship is canon, haha!

Thankewe! Until J.K. writes about Sirius and Remus in the same manner she writes about Harry and Cho or Ron and Hermione all you slashers are in the same boat. The same periodically weird and unsettling but occasionally funny boat. :)

Are you trying to tell me that full metal alchemist isn't a shounen ai anime? No, no, I'm not listening! *plugs ears, covers eyes and starts humming mary had a little lamb*
You should see some of the arguments in the Yami no Matsuei fandom, they get pretty heated!

I'll join you at the kiddy table!

*grin* You're just as gone as I am, aren't you? More, actually, since I'm simply following you down the path (ahhh "Memory of the Future", how I adore you). I love it.

If we want to play SlashDevil's Advocate, the only pairing that has a *marginal* chance of surviving in FMA is Roy/Al, just because those two are always down each other's throats. Aggravation = simmering sexual tension? That I can give you. The rest? Meh. :)

I love "Memory of the Future"! I am resisting downloading ahead because the comments are so much fun!

What are they up to? I think the poster said she has up to 4a scanlated. If there's more out there I don't think I'll be able to refrain from hunting it down. The translation is pretty good, IMO. It's one of the few works I've come across where I find myself impressed by the subtlety of the artwork AND the writing.

I still don't get this whole thing. *confused* Good thing we're meeting this week!

It's best your mind remain unsullied. Although, to be quite honest, nothing I've come across has been as damaging to my psyche as reading about Time Traveler/Time Traveler action.

*snort* Wonder if anyone HAS written about that one. LMAO! Oh shit...I cannot think about this right now...I need to sleep. *the sound of my braincells exploding one by one*

All slash just kind of makes me squirm and excuse myself from the conversation. Unless it's well established as canon within the series. Then I just shrug and wander away.

Yes, I'm an odd fangirl. I'm not fond of slash.

But I can see why other girls like it.

Slash is...odd. I generally avoid it when I can, but I've found that it's not all explicit and I've found some people who write *amazingly* well. SO well, in fact, that it makes me hope they're doing more than composing drabbles on couplings made from someone else's fiction.

I've also read a number of REALLY bad slash fanfics.

So where does one find the good stuff?

I'm not hedging, but for you I'm trying to find a place that has writing that's above par (for fic, anyway) and that isn't hidden in the middle of piles of smut. My task, es difficile. I'll be sure to notify you when I find something worthy of your owly attention. :)

Personally, I love slash. It makes me laugh hysterically.

My hobby for about the last few months now has been reading bad smut as the plot devices that people come up with to pair non canon characters never fails to amuse.

Occasionally I come across something that's well written and almost believable, but it's a rare one. Personally, my favourite pairings are in FFVII and are very non canon, but Cid/Vincent and Cloud/Barret (though anything on the latter is very hard to find) are almost cute lol*. The character annihilation never fails to amaze me.

Cid/Vincent...! Fo' serious? I find that couple much more weird than Cloud/Barret.

*grin* Badly written slash makes me groan. I cannot make it through a work I consider to be bad, be it writing, film, TV, etc. I've tried to go all Mystery Science Theatre-mockery route but I just.can't. It's part of the reason why I've avoided slash for many years even while proclaiming myself a fangirl - there's so much bad stuff out there, ya know? I've been lucky enough to find some really awesome writers recently so I'm "in the groove", so to speak. As long as the writer is good and the characters at least maintain a semblance of who they were (sexuality and attraction aside) I can make it through. The character assassination you mentioned...yeah. God, I mean sometimes I wonder why people bother to write AU at all. If you're going to go AU why not just make up your own character and have them do something?
