On Life, Writing, and other things
Jul. 10th, 2006 04:27 pmWhen I walk into lecture nowadays I feel I ought to don sunglasses, if only to make a point. There are 55 women in the class at the present, and I'm guessing at least 10 of them have gotten engaged and/or married over the last three months (I can't say anything about the five guys in the class because I've found males a little more reticent with the whole matrimony announcement thing). Diamonds diamonds everywhere I look. It's not depressing so much as...I'm struggling for the word here, give me a sec...okay, I can't think of a word. It is a continual reminder of my single state and occasionally reinforces the belief that I'll never get married, but it also makes me remember how young I am. One of those is a good thing, the others...well, eh.

I purchased a copy of Elements of Style and intend to read it in the near future. I'm all for not butchering the English language, contrary to what reading my regular postings might have one believe. I also purchased the newest version of Wheelock's Latin Primer. My Latin's become way too rusty and I get too much enjoyment over writing out translations to let all my work go to waste.

I'm a month and two weeks away from getting another degree. Makes me sort of proud, although I can't help but go "now what? where's your goddamned money??" Stupid pragmatism.

Date: 2006-07-10 09:45 pm (UTC)I figure if I'm not employed by January I should just run to some South Pacific country and open up a coconut stand, hoping Uncle Sam doesn't bother to hunt me down.

Date: 2006-07-11 04:23 am (UTC)And 31 is not old! My goodness. I'm always amused by people marginally older than me coming out to tell me that, yes, I'm young. It's true when they say it's a state of mind and therefore at least partially subjective (what, am I the only one who says that?? *grin*).

Date: 2006-07-12 08:28 am (UTC)Elements of Style makes me vomit. Ugh. I hate that damn book. I suck at following rules, but I will point out in a second when someone else breaks them. Haha.
My Latin is beyond rusty, which is sad, since I just got out of it. Oh well. But you should be proud of having another degree! I only have the one. Though, I'm seriously considering grad school now. Maybe.
