When I walk into lecture nowadays I feel I ought to don sunglasses, if only to make a point. There are 55 women in the class at the present, and I'm guessing at least 10 of them have gotten engaged and/or married over the last three months (I can't say anything about the five guys in the class because I've found males a little more reticent with the whole matrimony announcement thing). Diamonds diamonds everywhere I look. It's not depressing so much as...I'm struggling for the word here, give me a sec...okay, I can't think of a word. It is a continual reminder of my single state and occasionally reinforces the belief that I'll never get married, but it also makes me remember how young I am. One of those is a good thing, the others...well, eh.

I purchased a copy of Elements of Style and intend to read it in the near future. I'm all for not butchering the English language, contrary to what reading my regular postings might have one believe. I also purchased the newest version of Wheelock's Latin Primer. My Latin's become way too rusty and I get too much enjoyment over writing out translations to let all my work go to waste.

I'm a month and two weeks away from getting another degree. Makes me sort of proud, although I can't help but go "now what? where's your goddamned money??" Stupid pragmatism.

I know exactly what that's like. Stupid money.

I read "stupid monkey" there for a minute and thought you were giving props to the makers of Robot Chicken. Then my brain kicked in.
I figure if I'm not employed by January I should just run to some South Pacific country and open up a coconut stand, hoping Uncle Sam doesn't bother to hunt me down.

I know how you feel. The majority of the people I have attended school with (highschool and college) are married, divorced, remarried, and with kids. I am still single with a dog. It depresses me occasionally, but then I look at all I have done and can do guilt free because I don't have someone else to "answer" to. Don't worry about money, ha ha. Another degree is a real accomplishment!

I want a dog. Another one. Of course, I'd need a house with a yard to make that happen. *sigh* I think I'm going through one of those grass/green/over there stages at the present.

*grin* Sweetie, me trying to pick up a guy while in your presence brings up all sorts of Cinderella/Ugly Stepsister images. Why would a guy want vanilla (perhaps chocolate would be a more apt yet less PC flavor in this case) when he can have Hottie Swirl?

we're not in competition darling, we're in cahoots! you're not trying to get every guy you meet to be attracted to you. you just need one great guy to like you and be your boyfriend. and the cinderella / stepsister analogy is utterly inappropriate because the stepsisters aren't ugly because of their appearance. they're ugly because of their souls. and you, my dear, have an amazing soul. :)

Better to be single than to be married to someone you're not 100% happy with in 5 years. Too many people rush into marriage just to get hitched without really considering if they are with the right person (well too many people just date someone without really considering compatibility). Better to wait and be really happy with someone and know you made the right choice. And yes, you are still young. I didnt get married until I was almost 31.

Early congrats on your degree! One day I will go back!

True to an extent. This post was more of a mini-bitch than anything else.
And 31 is not old! My goodness. I'm always amused by people marginally older than me coming out to tell me that, yes, I'm young. It's true when they say it's a state of mind and therefore at least partially subjective (what, am I the only one who says that?? *grin*).

Um...sweetie, I'm a couple years younger, and ALREADY all my friends and former classmates are engaged/married/with children. And I'm like, uh....wait, what? Aren't we, like, 21 and under? The fuck, y'all? It's making me feel like I'm a hideous, unmarryable old maid.

Elements of Style makes me vomit. Ugh. I hate that damn book. I suck at following rules, but I will point out in a second when someone else breaks them. Haha.

My Latin is beyond rusty, which is sad, since I just got out of it. Oh well. But you should be proud of having another degree! I only have the one. Though, I'm seriously considering grad school now. Maybe.
