The tentative plan is to head with the Mom-unit out to San Francisco for five days during my winter vacation. I mentioned as much to her a couple of minutes ago, and then she wondered aloud if the area would be hit by a big earthquake while we were there. I'd completely blanked on that whole fault line/imminent death thing. Hmm. Somehow? not much of a deterrent at this point. Maybe. Sort of. Not.

You should go! SF is so awesome! I love it out there. If I hadn't moved to NYC, I'd have moved to the Bay area.

I'm going to, but I'm going to wait until after DragonCon to put down for the reservation. You have any ideas about where we should lay our head for the night?

Well, I normally end up at a con hotel by the airport but I know a lot of people stay right in the city to make use of public transport. I don't know any specific places though. I don't think your mom would be up for a youth hostel!

I think we might stay in the city proper, just because I'm not going to go through the hassle of renting a car.
I'm excited, and this trip is five months from now (God, I'm so lame!). Last time I was close to the West Coast I was in Seattle. I need to go back there as well. Next time we meet up I'll bring a tourist's guidebook to the city with me and ask you where I should be certain to visit.

We had a recent earthquake further south, towards LA. So as far as letting off steam, the fault's just done that, and it shouldn't shift again for awhile. No worries about a quake, then. :)
