W/e update
Oct. 18th, 2009 05:59 pmI successfully ignored all the WorkFail that went down this week (although I did happen to miss a fight between two folks that required the cops to be called; love it when financial difficulties cause office tensions to come to a head) and managed to enjoy myself this weekend. Got to hang with the always amusing
captainschlumpy in the city, where we went to a costume store (best costume I saw could only be described as "slutty college graduate"), had some neat Japanese food, managed to survive a run to Trader Joes (their whole grain mini-chocolate cookies were worth the labyrinthine line), and then snarked our way through B&N's romance, sci-fi/fantasy, and gay lit aisles (I'm still chuckling over the way my statement "So I picked up a book by Mercedes Lackey" amused her). Today I've done a lot of nothing (day of rest!) besides hit the gym, watch the Giants get smacked around, and find my passport (yes!). Good times.
On the reading front, I finished A Prayer for Owen Meaney. I haven't read anything that didn't go down like cotton candy in a while, and I have to say I've missed actually *thinking* and *contemplating* what I'm consuming. However I did need something light after that, so at the moment I'm re-reading Kirith Kirin and then planning to start Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series again in anticipation of the release of First Lord's Fury in November. Then maybe some more literary meat (she says as she looks at the massive pile of books that make up her "to read" stack).
I'll probably end up going as my nun again this year to the Parade, as I'm too lazy to put a costume together (although if I was a couple pounds lighter I definitely would pull out my grade school uniform and prance around), I haven't been able to find a BSG pilot costume in my size, and all the female costumes were too revealing for my peace of mind.
Here's to hoping the coming week is quiet.
