An estimated $72 million w/e take for the new Twilight movie? Really, US?

My days off have been amazingly amazing. I got to hang with [livejournal.com profile] atraxia Thursday and watch Star Trek for maybe the seventh time (this time with the ability to fastforward past Uhuru's painful attempt to literally blow Spock's anguish away in the lift, thankGOD), and then went to a Union-run professional issues conference Friday and today. The topics and discussions at the conference were surprisingly interesting, but I'm horrible at networking and I didn't have any friends attending with me so didn't stay for most of the pure socialization events. Tomorrow I intend to stay in early and then maybe venture out to have a professional attempt to salvage my hair (hot. mess. it's somewhat scary at this point.)

Little bros are both coming down for Thanksgiving, so Mother has decided we require 24+ lbs of turkey. I didn't know what to say to that besides inform her than Alton Brown states baking birds shouldn't be larger than 13 lbs in order to make sure they cook properly and aren't overly tough. So now I'm stuck with two 12 lb birds that I have to start brining. Thanks, Alton! I'll need to hunt down some kosher salt and two drink coolers with handy spouts in the bottom for draining tomorrow.

Why does Saturday TV suck? There aren't even any early morning cartoons to salvage my morning that are remotely engaging. And is it just me, or does TV in general stink? We pay for cable, have maybe 200+ channels at our disposal, and I spend approximately 2 hours a week (no lie) focused on any particular program. Otherwise I'm flipping mindlessly or the damn thing is playing in the background as I putt around on the computer (as it is and I am now).

And why do I now feel like Andy Rooney's hijacked my brain?

Yep, this entry is done.

Yeah TV in general really sucks. Right now I'm watching Heroes once a week and there's one more week of Stormchasers to watch. That's about it aside from random stuff I find on the History Channel or Food Network.

You're still watching Heroes? I get my kicks from reading the reviews at the Onion's AV Club, but I sort of gave up on the show back at the end of S1. What do you like about it?

And the Food Network, definitely. I spend too much time flicking between that and the Travel Channel.

I'll be honest, sometimes I wonder why I'm still sticking with Heroes too. My sister and I got hooked on the dvds and watched s1 and s2 over the summer. Then we tried watching s3 and it just got so freaking stupid. She gave up on it, I figured "I've seen this much, I'll at least give it to the end of this season." It redeemed itself enough that now I'm watching the current season.
I like some of the characters who have been around since the beginning of the show. Most of them still get enough screen time to keep me hanging around. Any characters introduced since s2? I couldn't care less about them if I tried.

Hahaha I can't watch much Travel Channel because it makes me depressed that I'll never have the time to go to all of those awesome places. At least on Food Network I can see something interesting and go "Ahha, I'm going to try making that" or "If I'm ever there I'm totally going to that restaurant." For some reason I really freaking love that Man vs. Food show, and Good Eats.
