The White Stuff
Dec. 21st, 2009 11:06 pmThe East Coast got hit with the little snow storm. Just in case all the posts about flurries and snowpocalypses and death by automated snowman Cylons scattered throughout people's FLs passed y'all by. We got a little more than a foot here, which was lots of fun to look at but not so fun to shovel. We'd actually planned on hitting the mall in the early AM on Sunday, but we underestimated how much time it would take to dig out (our house, then our uncle's house, then his elderly neighbor's house (because who can say "we have to go scope out the sales on XBox bundles" when a kindly old woman asks you to engage in manual labor for half an hour?)) and didn't get there until around 12:30pm. But as everyone else seemed to have decided to stay home (they were sane, I suppose) there were no massive lines to be found in the stores we visited.
Today was a holiday party at work. I ate waaay too much. But...there was homemade cheesecake! with fresh strawberries! And Irish soda! And chicken rolls made from scratch! And yummy Spanish rice! And delicious sugar cookies made by a three year old! And, uhm, homemade cheesecake! I brought it curry chicken and dal (curried yellow peas) that my mom made and folks loved it. It didn't even feel like a true work day, since we exchanged cards and basically ate all day. The rest of the week is bound to be a downer. And I'm using my "get out of being weighed" card at this week's WW meeting. But at least I'm planning on going. So there. Also got a good bit of holiday shopping down in Soho this evening with littlest bro. I'm basically tapped out of the whole "playing Santa" bit at this point.
It doesn't really feel like Christmas is only four days away. Maybe because I haven't attended any advent church services. I am planning on going to midnight mass, although the Episcopalians don't call it "mass" and celebrate it at 11pm. Hopefully that will help get me revved up about things.
In closing: public shout-outs to
nelliewu,
pr_spin_girl,
alicetheowl, and
devoosha for the holiday cards. It's always neat to come home after a day of dealing with commuters and patient craziness to have a bit of cheer with my name on it waiting on the table. Rock on, y'all.
