Vacation from work began Friday at 4:31PM. It is very much needed right about now.
Mom and I ended up having to persuade my grandmother to go to the ER Thursday night because she had developed GI bleeding that morning and even though her pMD told her to go to the hospital she'd decided to wait until Friday morning to head out. I stayed with her until close to 1AM but had to leave to head into work. If I didn't have vacation time lined up I would have called in sick so I could have stayed with her all night. She didn't end up getting a bed on a floor until 3AM and her doctor didn't do a colonoscopy until this morning (I'm quite pissed about that, but nothing can be done now). She lost a bit of blood and was in a lot of discomfort, but she didn't require a transfusion and her colonoscopy came back negative for malignancies. Unfortunately, they also didn't end up finding the source of the bleed, but it seems like the bleeding has stopped. Grandma is fretting about the planned cruise this Tuesday, even though I keep telling her I don't care about the cost and I just want her to feel better and heal up. Her doctor did tell her that they're planning on discharging her tomorrow if she tolerates solid food for breakfast and lunch, and if all holds up she has medical clearance to cruise with us. I just want her to go back to being chipper and cracking jokes (seriously, my grandma has the greatest sense of humor and comedic timing).
Yeah. The good news today with grandma helped my mood enough that I was able to head out to pick up some clothes for the trip. This evening, I went shopping for an evening gown for the first time. It was sort of awesome, like playing dress up for grown-ups. I found an absolutely gorgeous iridescent gown with a translucent jacket that was keen on picking up, but I couldn't find a jacket in my size that didn't have a small tear of some sort in it (!). I did get a nice formal dinner shirt/skirt combo as back up, but I plan on heading out tomorrow to see if I can find something comparable at another store. I might also try to see the new movie Splice.
My driver's permit came in with today's mail. Watch out, drivers of NY! I compared the picture on my permit with my photo from my three year old non-driver's ID and, wow, I've lost a LOT of weight in my face. I still have my chipmunk cheeks but I'm a fan of the newer look.
Everyone Hates Chris is a really funny show. I wish someone had turned me onto it a couple of years ago. Now I feel more or less obligated to pick up the boxed sets.
In conclusion: yay, vacation!

Date: 2010-06-07 05:36 am (UTC)And I saw Splice. DUDE. (http://fredericks.livejournal.com/425958.html) Please don't give them your money. Watch it, by all means. It makes for great discussion/blood angrying. But go the bootleg route or DL it or something. I regret giving them my $13 bucks.
