Harry Potter! Murrdderrrrrrr!
Jun. 6th, 2004 08:11 am/Van Helsing trailer-ism (that my brothers and I have been using shamelessly for the last six weeks or so).
Well, miracle of miracles, I managed to see the new Harry Potter last night.
This movie reminded me of what a great read book 3 was. So much so that, immediately after getting back home I had to pull it out and take it with me. I did think the beginning was a bit slow in pace, but things picked up once we got back to Hogwarts. Bros and I also spent a good bit of time mimicking porn grooves and giggling when Harry and Lupin were shown hanging out alone together. I swear, it's like Cuaron was trying to make an ad for NAMBLA. Okay, he probably wasn't, but we were getting those vibes. Or maybe we're just crazy peoples. My Lupin/Black Ho!Yay! meter started ringing overtime in the scene where Lupin transformed into a werewolf. You know, before the two of them had a lover's spat and Lupin beat the living shit out of Black. That? my favorite part of the book and my favorite part of the movie. I'll pay 5.50 to watch the movie again, if only for that scene. Although I always envisioned Black to be a much larger canine. And then, the scene where Hermione and Harry give Black Buckbeak and he heads off? Ding ding ding, we have an inappropriately slashy winner. When I told this to the brother sitting next to me he nearly made me piss my pants when he replied "Oh yeah, that's why Hermione walked away. Wanted to give them 'alone time'. Bow-chicka-bow-bowww!"
It was an overall nice waste of time, though I'm still waiting for the day when they give in to fan pressure and cast Trent Reznor as Professor Snape. I mean, I love me some Alan Rickman, but it's obvious who the visual directors had in mind when they costumed the man. I feel I should start a web-petition on the subject.
Right then. Carry on.
