Yay
taii! One of us. One of us.
Friday. New BSG. Eh.
Things weren't looking good during the first couple of minutes. The whole "reporter gets unlimited access to space ship and its crew" has been done numerous times on sci-fi shows and non-sci-fi shows (sans spaceship, of course). Lucy Lawless was hot, but that wasn't enough to do it for me until...naked ApolloNAKEDAPOLLO
I didn't find it hot so much as fascinating. I kept sing-songing "Naked A-pollo! Na-aked APOLLO!" randomly during the rest of the episode. And, fine - he wasn't totally naked. That has to be the smallest towel in space, though; Bamber is a smallish man (in height, anyway...let me stop). I guess since Six didn't imaginary-screw Gaius this week they had to introduce hawt some other way, pleasing the het. female and gay male demographics. It went back to "eh" status when Tigh's wife made an appearance, but the end reveal saved it a little. I have more thoughts on this episode besides commentary on who looked fine, but I'm going to save it because most of y'all don't care and if you do you better damn well say what you thought of the episode in a reply. Please. But, in the meantime-

A cap of the two most attractive pilots on Battlestar Galactica. I love this shot.

I read Howl's Moving Castle over the last couple of days, finishing it this afternoon. I didn't see the little twist on the plot coming. It was cute, though. The entire story was interesting and British (best thing I could come up with). I wish to see the movie now, mainly to listen to Bale.

This entry makes no sense. I think I'm allowed, seeing as I've been remarkably lucent during the last few(for me, anyway). However, I'll stop.

NAKED APOLLO

I guess Naked Apollo was in return for Naked Six the previous episode. We need more nakedness on this show... :)
I wonder how many times the towel was accidentally dropped too far, giving Lucy Lawless a nice eye-full? Actually, I wonder if that was originally ad-libbed because the towel started to fall during a take?
And, Blonde Lucy? I sat there thinking, "I know I know her..." until I saw her name on screen and realisation dawned.
spoiler time! [highlight to read]
So, we now know 6 Cylon faces. And, I take it Lucy will have a recurring role now. Wonder when we'll see the doctor-cylon again?
I actually didn't see that ending coming, as it is a sort of re-hash of the mini-series... the guy taking everyone round, etc turning out to be Cylon
Also, the Sharon that watched the footage said "I'm still alive!"
This makes me wonder if they do get their consciousness transmitted when they die - if they did, they'd know that she'd not died yet.
Also, to that point... do they even know which Sharon the one on Galactica even is now?

When Sharon said "She's alive! I'm alive!" it got a laugh out of me.
I don't think their consciousness transmits after they kick the bucket. I think the Cylon belief in returning to a body in storage after death mirrors the way some humans believe they'll go to heaven after they die; it's comforting speculation. Otherwise they definitely would have known if she'd died on Caprica or after getting caught by the crew.
So, if Sharon wasn't lying, there are 6 more Cylon models out there waiting to be revealed and/or played by guest stars. I figure the doc is rather inconsequential, but one of his models will probably show up in the fleet. Might even be there now, since the only person to see him was Starbuck and it's completely possible she never got around to describing him well enough to alert the civilians of his possible presence.
I'd seen the previews but didn't even realize the blonde was Lawless until I caught article reviews saying she was playing a reporter. The lightened hair and lack of a black breastplate is different, although I still (out of habit) got sapphic vibes most every time she was in a scene with another female. Heh. Old habits die hard.
I've long stopped speculating on smaller points of the show, since I get the feeling Moore and Co. aren't being meticulous with the writing; reports seem to show they know the big picture (how the series will end) but not the smaller ones (when they'll reveal the Cylons; who'll end up a Cylon, etc). There are podcasts at SciFi.com that correspond to episodes, and Moore seems not not know specifics of what's going to happen OR what's happened - the scene in Home Part 1 where Adama meets Sharon on Caprica for the first time since his attempted assassination and he throws her to the ground threatening to kill her where Sharon says "And you ask why?" The people on the board I frequent were going crazy trying to figure out what that meant! did dead!Sharon hear Adama's question and broadcast it to the Cylon collective? Moore, in the podcast, said something along the lines of Edward James Olmos asked for that line to be put in and he (as in the writing staff) have no idea what it means. So...shyeah.
On this episode - Gaeta needs to be revealed as gay. That candid of him in the reporter's interview was hilarious.

Anywho...
The consciousness thing is something that we'll probably find out more about. Does it really transmit? How does Caprica Sharon have exactly the same memories as Galactica Sharon, for instance...
For doc-cylon, I was just trying to think of a way to describe that model :)
His role in The Farm is inconsequential, but we can be sure he'll reappear somewhere.
And, Sharon said there were 8 more Cylons in the fleet...
Gaeta doesn't really come across to me as gay, personally. Butthen , I've never really been good at telling.
