fredericks: (Frowny face)

I don't do heat, I *don't*, my heritage be damned. It's 10:20PM and I'm stressing over assignments, I'm sweating, my face feels slightly...greasy? (why?!?), and tomorrow and Tuesday are supposed to be worse. Much much worse. Frak, frell, whateverthehell.

I finally caught the first episode of Farscape. I was feeling bad about not having seen a full episode before, like I should give up my geek card or something. It was okay. I suppose I'd have to watch more than one to pick up on things and have it get under my skin (as the little voice in my head says "all it took was the BSG mini before you raised your fandom placard over there, so nyah!"). Crichton looks remarkably like Daniel from SG-1, and that must *thrill* the peeps that watch it now; sorta like Doublemint Twins only naughtier.

eta-I housesat this weekend. Managed the "no internet/no cable" much better this time around, filling the time with BSG S1, Farscape, The Matador, and parts of the newer Hitchhiker (even Mos Def and Alan Rickman's voice couldn't stop me from pressing "eject"). The Matador was a quirky little film, weird enough that I probably need to watch it again to see if I really liked it. Greg Kinnear, though...you can do no better. Friday night I fell asleep to Grimaux's rendition of some Bach Sonatas and it was the best transition this unattached gal could ask for. Now I'm back home with all the TVs blaring and the brothers doing their thing (*sigh* to "long showers") and the craziness.

*grin* Good, so it's not just me with my dirty mind seeing things, then. That makes me feel all sorts of better.

I've really wanted to get into SG-1 for the longest time but I hate to jump into TV shows in the middle of things and it's nigh impossible to catch up with SG-1 as they're into season 10 and all. The few stand-alone episodes I've seen have been really interesting.

Heh, I wouldn't say it's impossible. I hadn't seen an episode of SG1 before the middle of this past December, and now I've seen them all. Of course, I spent nearly every waking moment for half of December and most of January catching up too, so... :)

I have never watched Farscape myself, so I wouldn't be worried about your geek standing. Although with Crichton and Claudia Black both on SG1 now, I have been thinking of DLing or Netflixing it.

That's dedication on your part! *grin* I remember when I got really into FullMetal Alchemist I think I watched all 50 episodes in something like...a week? a week and a half? 9 seasons times 20 episodes...I don't think my sanity could handle that much Stargate. But when I go back to Netflix (and I WILL go back to Netflix, it's like crack or Lays chips...you can't stay away) I'll be adding that show to my queue, no doubt.

I wouldn't call it dedication...I think the word I'd use would be obsessed. :) I tend to get obsessed with new things that strike my fancy like that. I watched all of Firefly in one sitting the first time, and I think I watched all of the first season of Lost in one weekend as well. If I had easy access to all of Buffy, I don't think I'd be coping with the one-episode-per-weekday diet I am on now. :)

I hate this weather. I think I can feel my brain melting.

I want to just walk around *inside a freezer*. I want to invent a freezer that I can tote just so my ass can jump in it. Really now. And the subway stations, they're like frackin' BOILERS. Eggs will come out soft-boiled, lobsters a lovely shade of crimson, people complete zombies...all of us staggering to our place of work/school/hell.

I obviously have lost it, and we have three days of this wave to cope with. Crapple.

I feel you.

I don't do heat either. I'm dying in this weather!

I'll come to your funeral if you promise to bring an AC to mine.

I actually don't mind the heat too much...but I did stay in air conditioning pretty much all day today, too.

I have half a mind to pen a "missing" myth where Prometheus brings fire to man and THEN brings down an A/C unit in summer. The lone A/C found in Olympus. Annnnnnnnnnd godly wrath then cue the being chained to a rock and having vultures peck at his liver.

Argh, so the heat is everywhere now it seems...I have been thinking of having my vacation in Antartica this summer just to cool me down a bit....anyone wants to join...we take our computers, cable and food for 3 months and do the whole Stargate SG1 and Farscape marathon, while sticking our feets out the door to get snowed upon....

PLAN!! BESTEST PLAN EVER!!!

I'd sign on, really and truly. The only thing we'd have to worry about is the inevitable melting. Blasted global warming.

Well, what about building a Noah's Arc, with solar pannels and so on....I am sure we would survive....and we could use the ice and melt it into fresh water....oh jeez, I have watched too many survival tv! LOL

Yeah I always wanted to see SG-1, but felt like it had been on the air too long and I'd be lost. Then when Ben and Claudia were announced for season 9, I decided I was going to jump in anyway. They have new cast members and a new enemy now, so actually it was pretty easy to get into. They did a good job of introducing Ben's character, so you can kind of follow along through his character as he becomes part of the group. I suggest seeing season 9 if you can first, or at least the last few eps if possible. But I don't think you need to rent the whole series to get into it.

As for Farscape, I didn’t get hooked until a few episodes in. At least wait until you get to DNA Mad Scientist, that’s one of the best episodes of the first season. Or A Human Reaction, also great. And if you don’t love it by Nerve/The Hidden Memory, then I don’t know what to say. =P Maybe not your cup of tea.

I need to Netflix it, definitely. When school is done I'm going to be parked in front of the DVD player.

The DVD I borrowed I initially thought was the first couple of episodes of Farscape but it was a "best of" season one, which I thought was odd. It contained "Premiere" and "DNA Mad Scientist". I felt a little cheated going into "DNA" because I'd missed all the character development from the first episode up to it and sort of couldn't fully get into why Aeryn was all of a sudden all mopey about potentially being left solo or having to go along with John. I think watching more of S1 might make things more palatable.

Yeah, Farscape is tons better seen in order. And season 3 (if you end up liking the show) is pretty much impossible to watch out of order. There's a lot of character development going on, and themes that carry through.... that's a big part of why people like the show I think (but also probably why it got cancelled). DNA was a bit of a character arc for Aeryn.
