Dear PTI,

Please take Dan Le Batard (or "Dan Le Bastard", as I've taken to dubbing him) and kick him out of the studio. No more, I say, no more shall this man be allowed to take Wilbon's place in absentia. His opinions are ridiculous, his voice grates, he's making my headache worse, and do you guys not see the way his lip scrunches up when he's trying to be "on"?? Seriously, stop it. Just stop it now.

Sincerely,
[livejournal.com profile] fredericks

P.S. - Where's Wilbon? Like, WTF?

P.P.S. - Seriously, like NOW, stop it. No, like yesterday stop it. I expect to go to the PTI archives in the near future, view the video from 3/7/07, and see Wilbon's mug plastered over Le Bastard's, akin to a Lucas job on the original Star Wars (no guns/guns, etc).

Mein gott, I don't want to go to work.

Yeeeah, I was just watching today. His biggest problem, for me, is that he's too much like Tony. At least Wilbon provided contrast, and some much-needed calm.

I actually think Kornheiser provides some needed calm to Wilbon. When Wilbon gets into his point he's all over the walls. But they do a nice back and forth, keeping each other in check. When Dan isn't spouting slightly off-the-wall comments he's busy getting trampled by Kornheiser. It's sad to watch.

To refer to Klaw's comment, you *are* lucky you haven't suffered through Bayless. He's HORRIBLE.

My big complaint about Kornheiser is, he's just another Old Media Guy. He's too far in the system. You know who I would pick to go on that show? Bill Simmons, who writes columns for the site. Here's a guy who is in his early thirties and has largely circumvented traditional media, so he's not one of these Pray To The Establishment types. Stylistically, he's the lovechild of Keith Olbermann and Peter Griffin.

Scary visual there, I know.

What do you mean by "too far in the system"? I like Kornheiser's Old School Sportsman roots. Neither he nor Wilbon usually come out with radical opinions on the topics they tend to cover, but the 1.5 minute limit per topic doesn't necessarily allow for huge divergence in opinion...at least, not if you expect some semi-intelligent back and forth. They keep it snappy, I'll give them that much.

I've read some of Simmons's stuff. Never thought to label him with that one, though. :) You have a point, though. If he could talk the way he writes it'd work out.

I think Kornheiser is *too* Old-School. I honestly think he's one of those guys who complains about this "rock and roll noise" all the kids are listening to. And from what I've seen of him on Monday Night Football, he doesn't have the spine to be as snarky when he's supposed to be the "fans' perspective" on the game. He's no Dennis Miller, but I don't think he's very entertaining.

And I respect your opinion. :) I find Kornheiser's old school-ness part of his personal charm. He isn't a vocal bash-you-over-the-head with it traditionalist, and he isn't afraid to get some ribbing from Wilbon about his foggeyisms.

K. said something rather revealing about this time on MNF during one show. He was talking about another person, a person who was making the transition from athlete to commentator, and he said it's often difficult to jockey for vocal air time while in the booth and you often feel pressure to be "on" and make whatever you manage to say really count (or bring the snark). I say give him some time to get comfortable, but he's not going to be a quick snappy commentator. I figure he won't last very long.

But he's hateable! That's gotta count for something... right? ;)

I'm never home to watch PTI, so I listen to the podcasts, and I forget what it was in yesterday's episode, but if it was possible to punch someone via iPod, I woulda done it RIGHT THEN. :)

*grin* Oh, I so get the hate. The way Kornheiser says it makes me believe he's not joking on his part, which makes it all the funnier.

That line had me laughing out loud for a good minute and chuckling off and on for a good half-hour. I kept imagining a "punch" option on iPod pulldown. God, my thumb would be raw from pressing it if I had to listen to Dan's voice.

LeBatard is an idiot, no doubt.

At least it's not Skip Bayless.

I've heard about Bayless. I feel lucky to have avoided suffering him on Cold Pizza.
