Carl Paladino is the Republican (Tea Party) candidate for governor of New York. Carl Paladino is also a major douchebag (btw first link is of Paladino being interviewed by Rick Sanchez which, irony much?). I find most everything about the man so distasteful I've come out on the other side and now search for tidbits about him in order to amuse myself. I've come to discover that I actually find his bluntness and utter lack of tact a refreshing change to the politico game. Modern politics seem to be about making oneself inoffensive by straddling as many midlines as possible (relative to one's party) to garner the most votes. And at his core the anti-abortion anti-gay rights socially regressive Paladino fits the Republican bill. But instead of making his message palatable he's putting all his shit out there and wagging it around for the world to see, warts and all: for example, not only are gays not right but being gay isn't a viable lifestyle! Ah, you asshole. I do love when bigotry, racism, and sexism aren't hidden behind spin doctor veils.

I'm pretty out of it, mood-wise. If I were to attempt to capture my mental state in a ten second vid it would be of me sitting in my room leaning across the closest window ledge with a slightly wilted black lily grasped in one hand while rain falls from swollen dark clouds outside and Apocalyptica's rendition of "One"* played in the background as I sigh and run my other hand through my hair, before snorting and rolling my eyes. Totally emo and I don't even know how to justify it or explain it. I work for the weekends, and when they come I lie around and do nothing, but do it to the point of exhaustion. Not really sure how to get out of it at the moment. Wish I had a CBT card to play. Maybe I'll try some St. John's Wort and see if I don't get placebo'd into being a Productive Member of Society.

Somewhat maybe unrelated, I'm hating my voice right now. It's soft and unassuming and doesn't fit my body at all and it cracks at the most inopportune times and it's completely not made for socializing anywhere outside of a library or quiet car on a train.

My next entry? sans whining and teh stupid emo, I swear. When that next entry will happen, given my current track record? ::shrug::

*P.S. - Gotta put "One" here, a) because the song is pretty awesome and b) because Apocalyptica makes me crack up, they are so early 90's hardcoreXXXL on their cellos it's hilarious and wonderful.

I'm sorry you're not feeling great, but your description of the lovely soundtracked emo was awesome.

Re: voices, now you've made me curious about what you look and sound like. (In a totally non-creepy way, of course.) One of my supervisors has a complete body/voice mismatch -- she looks like she'd have a raspy burlesque voice and she sounds like Minnie Mouse instead. It was really disconcerting at first and while I've gotten used to it, it still strikes me as unusual sometimes. And I've been told I sound like a cheerleader, which just makes me crazy since I like to think I'm much more like Daria than Quinn. So not that case, unfortunately.

DUDE! That video is so made of win! I've never heard of Apocalyptica before, which amazes me because I absolutely love Metallica. After listening to that one, I had to hear their takes on all my other favorites...think I ended up sitting here rocking out to them for like 45 mins. :)

I actually tend to gravitate more towards Metallica when I am in moods like the one you described (which I have been in a lot lately - tends to happen a lot when you despise your job), so I can totally relate.

Re: Paladino - I find the train wreck that is NY State politics humorous all the way around, so I kinda half think that the legislature and him deserve each other, in some twisted sick way. They usually mostly ignore upstate anyways, no matter who is in office.

Apocalyptica is definitely amazing. Multiply the good shivers you may get listening to Metallica's melodic upswings by a thousand when you hear it on a recording of Apocalyptica's cellos. Seriously good stuff. Which you obviously know by now. :)

Upstaters (and do you qualify as on of those? I thought you were like an hour above the Bronx?) usually say they're ignored, and NYC residents usually say not enough is being done. Same song and dance every two years. But, yes, completely with you on the strangely appropriate relationship between Paladino and the Legislature.

I like to mentally vid my more idiotic emotional swings. Helps to occupy my mind. :)

In my head I sound *normal*. Sort of more like Jane at her best. But stick a mic in my face and what I hear is a voice that sounds quite wispy and young. It's gotten to the point that I enjoy getting a cold if only to be able to sound my age for a day or two.

Oh, I'm definitely upstate....I'm in Syracuse, remember? :) I seem to remember having a conversation with you once about whether or not White Plains was upstate (no it's not).

What really impressed me about Apocalyptica is how well they were able to reproduce Kirk Hammett's guitar solos with the cello, plus they are somehow able to "reproduce" Hetfield's vocals with it too. Headbanging along to orchestra instruments is always a good time too. :)

Bwah! I remember. My brain, it's like good swiss cheese. (and it totally is to me. upstate, that is)

Rachel Maddow claims that Paladino is actually performance art.

I am starting to think she's right and he's just playing a massive joke on the whole state.

Paladino as performance art makes sense. Now, if he somehow worked his way into office with that crap? Not so funny anymore. But, yeah.

And, dude!, did you read the article in the Times where one of the rabbis who was with Paladino called him out of not being hard enough and actually waffling on his stance of the "gay lifestyle"?

I skimmed Newsday's article on it. And then I laughed. You courted this population, buddy, don't be surprised.

Newsday also reported that while he is opposed to all abortion (fuck you, buddy) he collects rent from Planned Parenthood. This guy is a tool and I would love to see him get punched in the nose.

I truly love your ability to be hilarious even when you're describing what a shitty mood you're in.

I can't take myself too seriously. Doesn't make my mood any better.
