Is this for real??

WASHINGTON (AP) -- If Congress passes an energy bill, Americans may see more daylight-saving time.

Lawmakers crafting energy legislation approved an amendment Wednesday to extend daylight-saving time by two months, having it start on the first Sunday in March and end on the last Sunday in November.

"Extending daylight-saving time makes sense, especially with skyrocketing energy costs," said Rep. Fred Upton, R-Michigan, who along with Rep. Ed Markey, D-Massachusetts, co-sponsored the measure.

The amendment was approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee that is putting together major parts of energy legislation likely to come up for a vote in the full House in the coming weeks.

"The more daylight we have, the less electricity we use,"[my italics] said Markey, who cited Transportation Department estimates that showed the two-month extension would save the equivalent of 10,000 barrels of oil a day.

The country uses about 20 million barrels of oil a day.

More daylight less electric use, yes...but how the hell does changing the time on a clock corellate with actual sunshine? Maybe I'm missing something because I'm friggin' exhausted. Can someone lend me a hand here?

I am so ashamed that the one guy is from Michigan...

I have an idea for cutting energy costs. Stop the war and quit lining the pockets of all of Bush's friends in the oil companies...thus making barrels of oil cheaper, hence making gas cheaper. Uh...I remember paying 89 cents a gallon when Clinton was president...and funny...he had no oil company buddies. I'd much rather have a president like that who gets hummers in the oval office than someone who is only trying to make his friends richer. :)

End rant :)

This article confuses me because I'm one of those people who uses only sligtly more electricity during the night than during the day. If I'm in a room I put the light on, when I leave I take the light off. Them "extending daylight savings" won't have much impact on my lifestyle because I also don't keep typical hours.

Sides, the wording is just bad here. And they're terribly clear. And YEAH, when the hell did we start talking about electricity and STOP talking about oil specifically? Bastards.

If i'm guessing right, it's all about saving daylight in the sense of more "awake" hours being during the time the sun is out. So if you're awake from 6am to 10pm, it's better to make sure most of that time falls during 'daylight' hours, than during 'night-time' hours.

My guess is that they need to write better. And they also need to stop causing wars when they have oil interests in their backyard.

Heh. Not that I'm upset or anything. *grin*
