As we got game system "upgrades" my brother would trade in the old systems to get cash. I really regret not having the old skool Nintendo, N64, or...what was that other one? Not Sega, but the other one? There was another system out there that was on the market for maybe two years...dammit, I hate old age.
Anyway, I wish we'd held onto them, if only so I could play them when I got hit with nostalgia. And, yes, I know that you can find them online but it's just not the same.
Ah. I never let go of my original NES. It is a little worse for wear and sometimes needs coaxing (a nice bang on the top) to get it to work sometimes, but it's a trooper. It's been with me through my childhood, high school, two colleges, a cross country move... :) I have a ton of games, too. I actually have both versions of Punch Out (the regular one and the one where you fight Mike Tyson at the end).
Messiah Entertainment actually just released a new, slim-line version of the NES that has wireless controls. I may get one of mine ever gives out completely.
I wish I still had my Sega Genesis.
As for that other system...are you talking about the DreamCast? Saturn? (Both by Sega.) Or maybe the TurboGrafx? And then there was the Atari Jaguar...lol. I like video games too much.
Oh yes, the instant NES fixes : banging on the top, blowing into the cartridges, using alcohol-dabbed Q-Tips on the cartridges. Good times. Those things were plenty durable, though. I remember one time my younger brothers took the games with them into the bathtub and then another time when they put baby oil and coins into the console. A little wipe here, a little drying there, they were good as new.
*grin* I'm nostalgic, but sometimes I think I've been spoiled by the lushness of CD-based play. If I ever get the urge I'll have to look into Messiah's new console release. Thanks for the heads up.
And it was Dreamcast I was thinking about. I loved that Sonic game that came with the console. I forgot Sega did that. Damn, Sega was everywhere.
