There comes a point in time when the light from your birthday candles is more apt to be described as a blaze than a soft glow. I've reached that point. Joy.

I can't believe I've managed to stay alive for 26 years (and sincere thanks to all you kind people who sent me greetings and hopes for many more; I'm right there with y'all). I try to be all optimistic about it but half full isn't my bag. Still at home, still unemployed, still in school, still dependent on my folks. But, hey!, health and all that jazz.

To stave off the blues I buy stuff, and so today after class I spent time in Midtown Comics and in Virgin Megastore. Bought some Lucifer GNs and the first two Battle Royale manga and a bunch of CDs (Dresden Dolls, new AFI, complete Oboe and Recorder works of Vivaldi, Danger Doom, a couple of others I forget). Then home for cake and the traditional singing of the song with the fam. I felt plenty insecure and more than a little shitty prior thanks to a guest my mom brought home. Longish story and my champagne-addled brain isn't cooperating so I can plaster it here. Suffice to say me = blah. But the day's almost done and then I can go back to feeling "meh". Marked improvement.

ETA - Forgot to mention this. Mom came in to check out my bag o' goodies. When she got to the Lucifer GNs she paused for a moment and made her face. It's specific to her, of course, but it's easily recognizable as the universal mom "wtf" face. Then she looked at me and said "Lucifer...you're not into that devil thing, are you?" I eye-rolled and told her that was right up there with saying people who read Harry Potter are witches and devil worshippers. Then she told me she informed a co-worker I was listening to OotP on CD and the co-worker wondered aloud if I was, in fact, a follower of Satan. My mind, it be boggled.

GN = graphic novel.
OotP = Order of the Phoenix, aka Harry Potter, book five.

You're not dumb. We just havent' dragged you far enough into fandom yet. =D

Now if I said I was reading a Lucifer/Harry Potter crossover extravaganza, then perhaps mumsy should start pulling out the Holy Water and the Host. Until then... *grin*

And thank you for the friending opportunity AND the birthday greeting. Nothing better on a b-day than meeting a cool new person.

FELICITATIONS! MANY HAPPY RETURNS!

We still meeting tomorrow? I shall buy you a celebratory Birthday Coffee. Or other assorted celebratory foodstuff of your choice. Birthdays should be celebrated by eating! =D

I once had a coworker tell me that yoga brought satan into oneself. She knw, cause her pastor told her so. Yup.

Heh. Coffee not required, my friend. Thank you for the greeting, though.

Meeting sounds good. I was wondering, though - is the RC box office *open* at 6PM? If it is we're still on. Perhaps we can meet in front of it (the BO, I mean).

Good call.

They close /at/ six.

So. I will bust my ass across town from work. If I'm not held up I can get there fast. Maybe...just maybe...I can get out a few minutes early.

So. More like 5.30-5.40ish?

(Lookit! I found icons!)

I noticed! You found excellent ones, btw.

I'll be done at school at 3:30ish, so I can get to the BO early and scope things out (I'll be studying in a convenient location during the interim). 5:30 is fine by me.

Also?

go here: http://www.radiocity.com/seating.html#

And click on RC, and check out the interactive seating chart. It shows you the view of the stage from each section.

Date: 2006-06-13 03:43 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com
The seats that come up for 30 are 2nd mezzanine, row K. According to that chart the view's actually not too bad, but it doesn't take the "obstruction" into account. Oh well. I guess we'll see tomorrow.

Date: 2006-06-13 03:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sternel.livejournal.com
If you look at the back of orchestra -- I think that's the sort of thing they mean by obstruction. The stage itself? Where they'll be sitting? That's a clear view. It's the ceiling and all that which is blocked. Problematic if you're at the Christmas Spectacular, which bounces all over...but I don't think it'll be as big a deal here.

(last one. i must find caps and make my own.)

I do.

I also need to stop in St. Pat's, if I don't get a chance to in the morning. I need to light a candle. If you want to come, company is always welcome.

...Why am I thinking your birthday was the 14th? Oh right. Because I always mix up birthdays on the 12th with the one on the 14th. Dammit.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I love yoooooou!

And you are so awesome for buying Dresden Dolls and AFI. : )

Haven't listened to DD yet, although I'm taking to the AFI.

Which DD did you get? It took a few days of constant submersion for AFI to stick to me. But I completely love tracks 1, 9, and 12.

...the one that was on sale for 8 bucks at Virgin? They totally airbrushed the chick's armpit hair away. I just realized that. Eh, it just has The Dresden Dolls on it. Black and white hard paper cover.

The first one. Well, the first major studio release. I heart that CD muchly. And...I didn't notice the airbrushing. I'll have to find the case and look. LOL.

Good Day and The Perfect Fit are my favorite songs.

Happy birthday! I think 26 was the first year I started to get the birthday blues too. They do pass though. Even my big "I'm turning 30, I can't be 30, what have I done with my 30 years, (sob!)" blues have more or less passed within a week or so.

That's cool that you bought yourself some birthday gifts! I did that too.

Happy Birthday!

And yes, J K Rowling is working directly with Satan. That's why she writes about witchcraft and is enticing a global generation of children to the darkside. A conspiracy it is. Or maybe they're just fun-to-read books.

Oh Lucifer GN's, score!! I should have sent you some Sandman's to go with that, then your momsy would absolutely think that you belong to some devil worshipping cult and your cults motto is "lived eh" LMAO! I know I'm a 8-] and proud! It's a canadian devil lovin' cult. Harry Potter is evil....evily addictive maybe we should try to play the audiobooks backwards because there has gotta be some great Satanic messages in there! Oh and darn those people who are giving witches a bad name, ARGG.

From: [identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com
You're a Lucifer fan too, eh? I don't like it quite as much as Sandman, but Gaiman's Lucifer was an interesting character and I like the way Carey's managed to keep him intriguing. Not too hot with the seeming infallibility of the character, but there are others around him to keep me coming back for more.

From: [identity profile] fallen-ophelia.livejournal.com
You are right not as good as Sandman but then there isn't much that I can say I like more than Sandman besides maybe Transmetroplis by Warren Ellis! I've read the first two of Lucifer a while ago, but it hasn't made my collection yet. I really liked Book of Magic but the ones after in the series kinda fizzled. I have to replace the Books of Faerie I lent them out to my ex best friend and never got them back after we had a falling out! What can I say I'm a huge gaiman fan. I also want Black Orchid! Now I want to head to the comic store. :-D
