The official word is that I have a "family emergency" and I won't be able to go into work tonight. I told my boss as much: family emergency, and my brother and I have to head upstate. It sort of is an emergency, as middle bro has to leave his dorm by tomorrow afternoon and oldest bro can only use the new van to pick him up if he's accompanied by someone (i.e. me). And middle bro's school *is* upstate. But, erm, technically I *could* go to work tonight, be picked up right after end-of-shift tomorrow, and head up to Troy without much incident. I just don't want to go to work (as if that's news). After this I have eight shifts left before I'm free. It's like friggin' pulling teeth, man. RE-diculous.

I think one of the best things about the new job will be having a regular schedule. I'll have most weekends free, so I'll be able to head to church on a regular basis. My hours will be set, so it'll be easier to make time for the gym and/or heading out to shoot the shit on the town. I'll be working during the day, so there won't be any excuse for keeping weird-ass hours (for example - yesterday I went out at 10AM, got back home by 4:30, slept from 5:30 in the evening until 10:30PM, dicked around until 2AM, slept until 6:20 this morning, and have been up dreading heading to work since). I mean, even if the job is just as bad in its own way as the one I have now, at least the steadiness will be a benefit.

I dunno. Let me just revel in my ability to smudge the truth for a little while longer.

There's something to be said for a regular "normal" work schedule.

After I finished college, got a full-time job and didn't have 3 part-time jobs occupying all my time, I didn't know what to do with myself on the weekends!

Savor and enjoy them!

I've never really had a regular work schedule. I vaguely recall my days working retail at Radioshack a couple of years back (and it's scary how that was only three years ago yet I can recall little about the practicalities of the job besides the occasional tidbit about electronics and AV hookups), but this will be a job with intent, you know? I think I'll enjoy it muchly. :)
