I'm back from Boston. The Con was great and I cannot wait to go back next year. I am going to write it up soon.

BUT. I just needed to vent because I stupidly ran my smartphone through an entire spin cycle in my washer. ENTIRE SPIN CYCLE. FUCK FUCKITY FUCK.

Contacts, Kindle books, texts? gone. Phone? gone. Lots of cash that will be needed to pay for a new phone? soon to be gone.

FUCK.

eta - My brother said "stick it in rice!", so my phone and battery are currently resting in a small pot of Carolina Brown. Hopefully I'll remember to take it out before I get the urge to carb up and put the rice on to boil.

LOL OMG! So sorry about your phone! =( It's kind of unbelievable but last year I actually dropped by iPhone in the Pacific Ocean on a trip to SF! (Hahah, it worked just long enough for me to tweet & post about it before it died!) I had gotten a SquareTrade warranty that covers drops & spills, though, so they reimbursed me for a replacement iPhone from Apple (minus a $50 deductible). IT WAS SERIOUSLY MY SAVIOR and I can't say enough about how nice they are! Of course that doesn't help with all the data lost, but it certainly helps with the money. (So you might want to consider them for your next phone purchase.) =D

Dude, yeah. My Con high is seriously harshed right now. Gah.I do love how Kowalski is totally feeling my pain right now. That's effin' awesome. :)

It's so funny how I figured it out - I remembered trying to be efficient and placing my phone in my laundry bag along with my clothes... but of course not until after starting the washer and finishing breakfast. Then I called my phone and it must have given up the ghost after three rings. Poor thing.

Somehow I'm doubting the rice will make much difference. Pretty sure my bro is having a laugh. But eh. *shrug* Lack of phone and net connection while on the road is not fun. No books either. :(

I seem to remember you had an Android phone. That or I've gotten my wires switched, and you can call me an idiot. Anyway, if you had an Android phone and you had your Gmail account set up on it, then all your contacts are saved in Gmail. When you get the new phone, they will automatically load back when when you input your Gmail address. Like magic. I have a phone nerd friend who talked me through hacking my Motorola Droid and I wiped the phone clean. All my contacts came back when I logged into Gmail. Also, all my downloaded apps returned when I went into the market and looked at everything my Gmail account had downloaded. It just had to download everything again, but it had a record saved. Your Kindle books should work the same way.

If you didn't have an Android phone, then oops, my bad.

I do have a Droid. I keep forgetting about the gmail thing! Thanks for that. When I called Verizon, though, they told me the Kindle books were a lost cause. :( I guess I'll have to see when I get the new phone.

Thanks!
